Welcome to Christ Church!

Introduction To Christ Church of East Lansing

First and foremost Christ Church is a rejoicing, celebrating community of believers who confess Christ as Lord and through the power of the Holy Spirit serves as a place of worship and praise to the Triune God! We rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus and we celebrate the reality of the "communion of the saints" each Lord's Day.  Even as we strive for theological orthodoxy, we know that it must be an orthodoxy that is alive, vibrant and relevant, which means it also values and shapes all of the interpersonal relationships that are encouraged in our fellowship.

View of the Future

Christ Church View of the Future

The following statement was written by David Chilton and published in his book  Paradise Restored. Christ Church of East Lansing agrees with Chilton’s position and  conclusions. We are a church with an expectation of success and victory!

No Christian believes in ultimate defeat.
All Christians know that God will be victorious over the devil at the end of history. As a young Christian, I remember my Bible teachers informing me that they had "peeked at the last chapter (of the Bible), and the Christians win!"

Our musical worship

Why Do We Sing So Much & Why Do We Lift Up Our Hands? Our Musical Worship

The worship service at Christ Church revolves around the recognition, confession, praise and worship of Jesus Christ. To that end we strive to be faithful in worshiping God musically in "psalms, hymns and spiritual songs." We believe that music is an important and central part of worship. In fact, so vital was music and so culturally invigorating that King David made sure that musical instruments and songs of praise were constantly offered up before the Lord in the sanctuary. In 1 Chronicles 23:5 we’re told that “four thousand praised the Lord with musical instruments,” and further in 1 Chronicles 25:1 David separated out for service many “who should prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals” and these appear to have been a musical elite “who were instructed in the songs of the Lord, all who were skillful, [and the number] was two hundred and eighty-eight.” Many Biblical scholars believe David implemented a 24 hour a day, seven days per week musical praise offering in the tabernacle with the Levites dividing into many shifts as a part of their duties. Of course, an entire book of the Bible is dedicated to songs of praise, dedication, worship, repentance, spiritual warfare, testimony and remembrance of God’s great historical works and more (The book of Psalms). Musical instruments and singing “praise choruses” to God has been at the center of all worship, as seen in the celebration service dedicating the temple:

Concerning the Lord's Table

Our Teaching On Communion &
Why We Partake At The Lord’s Table Every Sunday
Concerning the Lord's Table
We believe in active participation of Christians in good standing in our church (or if you are visiting us, good standing in your local church) in a Eucharistic celebration, culminating in the gathering of God's people around the Table of our Lord. Prayer, songs of praise, the preaching of the Word and coming to the Lord's Table are all vital and indispensable aspects of worship. Along with the understanding that we are remembering the death of Christ for the sins of the Redeemed, there is an exciting eschatological aspect that celebrates the victory of God's people in time and history. "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. My cup runneth over," proclaims the Psalmist (Ps. 23). Truly even as we are experiencing covenant renewal by partaking of the bread and wine, Christ is also establishing and building His Church in the presence of its (and His) enemies, yet the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. This meal in the presence of enemies anticipates The Great Wedding Banquet of the King that is celebrated when "all His enemies are placed under His feet."

Feasting & Fellowship at Christ Church

Celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord with the abundance of His provision at our tablesFeasting & Fellowship at Christ Church

“Now all who believed were together…continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”  Acts 2:44-47

Christ Church places a great value and emphasis upon food, drink and fellowship. After every worship service we strive to provide a ministry of warm hospitality with an extended time for our members and guests to take a break from busy weekly schedules, relax and relate one-to-another as friends and members of the body of Christ. For many in our church it is the main time available to talk at length with friends in the church, to share good news taking place in their lives and that of their families, and also to share a need for prayer that may exist. From a Biblical perspective food, drink and fellowship are tightly woven together in such a way as to make it an essential aspect of community life.
